I'VE BEEN ASKED of what video editing software is good to use.
Among the many editing s/w out there, I use Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas.
I tried to use Final Cut of Mac, and I find good as well.
For a simple and quick editing, you may want to use Windows Movie Maker or iMovie (for Mac).
I have heard of Avid but I am not so familiar with it.
After telling this to people who ask me, they seem want me to just suggest to them one software.
It would be depending on their requirements; I usually reply.
Like if what you do is simple and quick editing, and you need to edit a lot of clips continuously, you may want to use Sony Vegas.
With Vegas, you can continue editing while rendering, which you can never do with Adobe Premiere.
What do I mean here?
You open up Vegas application, you edit, after editing, you render it.
While the previously edited video is being rendered, you can open another Vegas application to edit other video materials without affecting what is being rendered.
You cannot do that with Premiere.
But with Vegas, you can open as many Vegas applications as your computer can run.
This is excellent for editing clips for live news broadcast, for example, because you can render and edit at the same time. And you can do it very quickly.
One drawback I see in Vegas is the ease of use of its effects and some video modifications.
For example, the Position for clips (Height, Weight, X Center, Y Center) is not as easy as with Premiere.
You can change the clips Position and size in Premiere with much ease than Vegas.
Another edge of Premiere is its toggle animation.
If you want creativity, use Premiere. If you need quick and simple ones, use Vegas.
Presently, I am using Sony Vegas because the video materials I am editing doesn't require much creativity.
